Family Members Charged In SoCal Corruption Probe

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Six relatives of indicted city
officials have been ordered to stand trial on perjury and other
charges in a corruption probe in San Jacinto.

A Riverside County judge on Friday ordered the six defendants be
tried on charges of conspiracy to make campaign contributions in a
false name, making a campaign contribution as an intermediary and
perjury.

Authorities contend that they illegally donated and were
reimbursed for contributions to the failed 2006 state Assembly
campaign of City Councilman James Ayres.

They then denied being reimbursed in front of a grand jury.

Nine other people -- including Ayres and the city's former mayor
and vice mayor -- have already been indicted on charges of trying to
skirt campaign contribution limits.
