Strange Twist In Anna Nicole Smith Case

LOS ANGELES (AP) — In a strange twist in the Anna Nicole Smith drug trial, a former nanny gave a dramatic account outside the jury's presence but was unable to repeat the details for the jury.

The judge ordered Los Angeles jurors Wednesday to disregard part of the incident described by Quethlie Alexie, saying he did not consider it reliable.

The witness had told jurors how Smith drank a bottle of medicine and fell into a two-day slumber from which she could not be roused. But in their absence, she described Smith's boyfriend Howard K. Stern crying, shaking her and saying if anything happened to her he would go to jail.

But the version she told jurors was significantly different and the judge ordered it stricken.

Stern and two doctors have pleaded not guilty to drug conspiracy charges.
