Man Running Across 101 Freeway Struck By SUV

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 31-year-old man running across the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles was struck by a sport utility vehicle and is hospitalized in stable condition.

The California Highway Patrol says the pedestrian suffered fractures to his skull and right leg when he was hit just after midnight Saturday near Barham Boulevard.

The CHP says the Newport Beach man was running east across the freeway when he was hit by a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by a 33-year-old Canoga Park woman. The names of the victim and the driver were not released.

Investigators are trying to determine what the man was doing in traffic.

The freeway's northbound lanes were closed for about an hour as the CHP investigated.
