Live Grenade Found At Glendale College Campus
GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say the discovery of a live grenade on a Glendale college campus forced the evacuation of hundreds of students.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says construction crews unearthed the Vietnam War-era explosive on Thursday at a satellite campus of Glendale Community College.
About 500 students and staff were evacuated along with a campus daycare center and some nearby buildings. A nearby elementary school also was placed on lockdown.
Authorities finally put the grenade in a hole, covered it with sandbags and safely detonated it.
There's no word on how the device wound up on campus.
