Store Owner Fatally Shoots Would-Be Robber
LANCASTER (CBS 2) — The owner of a comic book store opened fire on two men he says tried to rob his business early Wednesday morning, fatally shooting one, in Lancaster.
The shooting in the 200 block of East Avenue K-8 occurred about 3:30 a.m., said Deputy Lillian Peck of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
When deputies arrived, they found Robert Summers, 28, of Lancaster, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition and died about about 13 hours later.
A second suspect may have been wounded, but has not been located, Peck said.
Greg Mills reporting for KCAL 9 said two men smashed the front window of the business and entered.
The owners were spending the night in the store to thwart a series of break-ins they said were plaguing their business, a comic book and sports card store.
