TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — A Los Angeles County jury has convicted a 23-year-old man of trying to kill a police officer outside a Gardena pizza restaurant two years ago.
Jurors returned the verdict Friday against Trevon Willis after deliberating for less than a day. He was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, weapons possession and other charges in the shooting of Officer Eric Hyde in January 2008.
Hyde was shot twice in the leg during an exchange of gunfire outside the pizzeria.
Willis faces multiple life prison terms when he’s sentenced in October.
He also faces a murder charge in an unrelated case.
