Costa Mesa Approves O.C. Fairgrounds Deal

COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — Costa Mesa City Council has approved plans to lease the Orange County Fairgrounds to a real estate management firm if lawmakers pass legislation allowing the city to purchase the state-owned property.

The deal approved Tuesday allows Facilities Management West to run the fair and other events on the property for 55 years as it repays the city's $96 million loan for the property.

The State Department of General Services tentatively agreed in June to sell the fairgrounds to Costa Mesa, but the third-party involvement triggered the need for the state legislation.

The state decided to begin taking new bids for the property Tuesday after seeing no sign that state lawmakers would pass that legislation before their session ends next week.
